Let's get started!
Since graduating from Loyola University Chicago's School of Social Work in 2015, I've worked in Residential, Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and Outpatient settings. I also have experience working with adolescents; queer, trans and non-binary people; and conducting couples therapy, although I no longer provide ongoing counseling to couples at present.
My primary areas of focus are substance use, chemical dependency, disordered eating, and life transitions. My bread-and-butter clients are family members and loved ones of people with addiction as well as recovering persons themselves.
The primary theoretical outlook I used is a classic known as Family Systems which is then informed by contemporary understandings of trauma-informed care. During session, we'll get to know each other and develop a general game plan to help you achieve your goals. I use an eclectic mix of techniques based on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and 12-Step Facilitation and others as I see fit.
I view my role as a combination of collaborator, sounding board, reality checker, sometimes educator, and hype woman. If all of this sounds like that you're looking for in a therapist, please reach out to me via email at wynn@wynncoughlin.com.
